Getting Smart About Security

If you have a WordPress blog or website, WordPress security must be an issue for you. I'm sure you must have heard about hackers attacking blogs and websites of other people. The damage done by them can be enormous, especially when the particular blog was high page ranked, displaying high in search engines and profitable. It is not the only type of websites attacked by hackers. The reasoning behind their acts can't be explained as logical. They will destroy it for fun. I know stories of people who one day, instead of their website saw a short note informing them that their website has been blocked by Google due to the thread it carries to other internet users. It was a result of hacker attack, who made changes to the website.

Finally, rename your login url to secure your wordpress website will tell you that there is no htaccess from the directory. You may put a.htaccess file into this directory if you wish, and you can use it to control access to the directory by IP address or address range. Details of how to do that are available on the net.

The approach, and the one I recommend, is to use one of the creation and storage plugins available for your browser. RoboForm is liked by people, but I think after a trial period, you have to pay for it. I use the free version of Lastpass, and I recommend it for those of you who use Firefox or Internet Explorer. That will generate passwords for you.

There's a section of config-sample.php that is headed"Authentication Unique Keys." There are four definitions which appear within the block. There is a hyperlink within that part of code. You want to enter that link into your browser, copy the contents that you return, and replace the keys you have with the unique, pseudo-random keys offered by the website. This makes it harder for attackers to automatically create a"logged-in" cookie for your website.

Can you view that folder, Imagine if you go to WP-Content/plugins? If so, upload that blank Index.html file inside that folder as well so people can't view what plugins you might have. Someone can use that to get access because even if your Click Here version of WordPress is up to date, if you're using a plugin or an old plugin using a security hole.

There are always going to be risks being online (or even just being alive!) Also it's easy to get caught up in the fear. As soon as we get caught up in the fear, we often put the breaks on. This isn't a response. Just take some common sense precautions forge ahead. It will need to be dealt with then, if something bad does happen and no amount of quaking in your will have helped. All is good, if useful reference nothing does and you have not made yourself ill.
